Interim Self-Evaluation

List 5 practical skills that you have developed. When have they proved useful?

1. Screenprinting, this proved useful when making my hotdog books and is now is a skill I could potentially use in future projects.

2. Illustrator, this has helped in most briefs, it has helped develop my way of working.

3. Photoshop, again this has helped in many briefs as  well as the specific photoshop brief we were set.

4. InDesign, this has proved very useful in my understanding of layout, type and grid and in our current InDesign brief.

5. Book Binding, I found learning how to bind books really interesting and a good skill to develop, it is now another possiblity of outcome in response to a brief and is also useful as I can now make my own sketchbooks.


List 5 transferable skills that you have developed. What have you used them for?

1. Time managment, this is useful for getting briefs complete on time and making sure is equally and appropriately spread between briefs and tasks.  

2. Working as a team, during group briefs this is invetiably very important.

3. Presentation skills, during crits and group presentations it is very important to be able to talk about my work infront of my peers and tutors.

4. Organisation, this is really important when it comes to module submissions, knowing where all my work is and also to keep on top of work, knowing what I need to do and when it needs to be done.

5. Critical Evalution, evaluating my self and others in crits and at the end of briefs is a skill I feel is very important and one  I am devleoping.

List 5 things you have achieved. How have they helped you progress?

1. Illustrator, this helped my computer skills develop and improved my quality of work.

2. Communication/Confidence, I have become better at expressing my opinions and become more confident when talking about my work.

3. Independance, this the first time I have lived away from home and I have managed to feed myself keep myself alive so far!

4. Punctuality, I get up early so I am not late for collage and it means I get the most out of each day.
5. Meeting deadlines, I always get my work done on time and the deadlines push me to work hard so I achieve this.

List 5 problems that you have had to face. How have you overcome them?

1. Using Photoshop and Illustrator, I had never used either of them before so I found it hard at first to get to grips with it but I just kept at it and I saw improvement.

2. Motivation, I try and do work that I enjoy so I don't get bored and lose motivation and I give myself deadlines within briefs so I have something to work towards.

3. Confidence, I never liked speaking infront of a lot of people but I thought the only way to overcome this was by doing it, I now try and speak out more in presentations and crits.

4. Essay writing, when writing my critical studies essay I had to make sure I spent time planning and researching so I was prepared to write a well structured essay.

5. Energy, sleeping and eating enough doesn't always happen but I try and take breaks in the day and do try and sleep and eat properly so I can keep going.

List 5 facts that you have learned. When have they been useful.

1. Don't come into college hungover, you will not get any work done and feel horrible!

2. Keep up to date with blogging or it will swamp you and you'll hate it.


3. Give good criticism and learn how to take it.

4. Make sure you book the print room in advance as it gets really busy.

5. Be careful with money or you will end up poor and hungry.


List 5 things that you will never do again. Why?

1. Leave my blogging, it takes too long to catch up with it.

2. Take to long to make decisions, or it will be too late in the project to produce anything good.

3. Remember you need money for prints etc, don't spend all your money on silly things you don't need.

4. Don't hold back, just go for it!

5. Do not wake up late, rushing to college is never fun.
