Enterprise Task 2-Where are they – How will they find me?

In my previous enterprise task I wrote that my ideal work situation would be working as an individual in the cultural/entertainment industry, working with record labels/musicians/cinemas/theatres and events.
I have done some research into potential clients and where they are located, there are jobs for this type of work in most places in the world but I have focused down on a few.

Record Labels:
-Moshi Moshi Records-London
-Bella Union-London
-Beggars Group (Rough Trade, XL, 4AD, Matador)-London, New York, LA, Tokyo, Hamburg, Canada, Paris, Athen, China, Italy, Amsterdam, Belgium, Austria
-In The Red-LA
-ED Banger Records-France

Independent Cinemas:
-The Tyneside-Newcastle
-The Electric -Birmingham
-The Duke of Yorks-Brighton
-The Corner House-Manchester
-The Hyde Park Picture House-Leeds
-The Phoenix Cinema-London

Records label/musicians and cinemas use a lot of printed media, such as record sleeves, merchandise, posters for musicians and programmes, flyers, film posters and tickets for cinemas. Both also have digital media in the form of websites, videos and trailers.
For musicians, bands a record labels they will need promotional material, especially if there is a release of new music as well as artwork that reflects their music as well as a website that will reflect this also and give an overall identity. This artwork can also be put onto merchandise and ticketing.

I have decided to look at Moshi Moshi Records that are based in London as a potential client to work with who are based in London.
This is their homepage artwork which is something that needs designing, the overall identity and logo of the company. But I am going to focus on some of the artists on this record label and PEST analyse what needs to be considered.
These are some of the poster designs for their nights which is in an illustrative style which is something that I want to produce in my work,

These designs are by Ross Peacey, www.myspace.com/thewolvesofstaugust

I am looking at Slow Club who are on Moshi Moshi records, this is some of their old artwork,

Using a PEST analysis, looking at the political, economical, social and technological factors that surround the music industry I can look at what effect this will have on the type of design that is used. Economically musicians, especially new and up and coming artists will not have a lot of money to spend on design and designers so they will need to design around the budget they have, maybe not using special print finishes on their artwork. Technologically music is ever evolving, especially now as with iTunes and MP3 so a lot of musicians need their artwork to work digitally on screen as well as on the album sleeve artwork so that needs to be taken into consideration when designing, does it work on both screen and printed design. Social aspects depends on who the bands target audience is, what type of people listen to their music and where they are mainly located, if it is a band for a younger audience maybe promoting themselves on social networks would be more appropriate so web design would be needed. Also people have started to go back to more traditional ways of listening to music, people are buying records again and going into record stores, so producing eye catching album artwork and promotional material that would be in these record stores. Political aspects of the design would also depend on what type of music it is, if the band want to shock with their artwork you have to think about how it will be perceived in the outside world, they band would not want to get their artwork banned or maybe they would if it is the type of attention they want to receive.
